The Tale of the Little Unicorn Who Had Boogers

Once in the land of rainbow mountains, a little unicorn was born, accompanied since childhood by one small thing that ruined her dreams. In her nose lived… boogers. Not ordinary ones, but some very stubborn ones — they didn’t want to leave their cozy home, and moreover — they appeared treacherously exactly when Lilu, as the unicorn was called, tried to look charming. During her first flight over the meadow? She sneezed. When she tried to sing before the forest jury? A booger, shiny and annoying, hung from her nose right in front of the dragon-host. And worst of all — everyone noticed.

Over time, the little unicorn learned to hide. She didn’t fly, didn’t sing, and didn’t even laugh openly. “Better to be invisible than weird,” she thought. And the more she held herself back, the more sadness accumulated in her heart. And the forest — it watched in silence. After all, everyone loves the perfect ones. Don’t they?

But one evening, when the moon hung over the meadow like a slice of cheese and all the other unicorns were asleep, Lilu heard the crunch of grass. An old unicorn with a gray tail and blind eyes stepped out from behind a tree. She couldn’t see, but she seemed to know everything.

“I heard you,” she said. “Your heart hums like a string. You don’t know how to accept yourself. That’s why your nose holds onto what you want to hide.”

“But… I don’t want this. Boogers are gross,” Lilu replied, lowering her head.

“Gross is thinking that magic should look like it’s on a book cover. Your magic isn’t in the sparkle. It’s in honesty. And in being yourself, even if it’s inconvenient. Even if it’s with boogers.”

The old lady disappeared just as she had appeared. And Lilu sat and thought. What if she didn’t hide anymore? What if she laughed — with a sniffle, if she flew — with a wet nose? After all, that was also a part of her.

The next day, she went out to the meadow during the day for the first time. She greeted everyone and… sneezed. Loudly. A booger flew toward a bunny. But she didn’t run away. She laughed. Sincerely. For the first time in a long time.

And something strange happened. No one laughed at her. On the contrary — several unicorns admitted that they had their own “boogers”: fear of failure, shame for not sparkling like the others, or simply… a crooked tooth. Lilu suddenly felt: she wasn’t alone. Everyone has something they hide.

From then on, she flew, sang, and danced. The boogers were there, of course. But it didn’t scare her anymore. And at that very moment, when she was no longer ashamed of herself, a miracle happened.

One morning she woke up — and felt she could breathe freely. The mirror drop that always lived in her nose was gone. She looked into the pond — her nose was clean. Not because she had defeated the boogers. But because she was no longer at war with herself.

Her magic changed. Now she didn’t just create rainbows, but could also help others see their true selves. Lilu became a symbol of acceptance. Her story was passed around the forest in whispers; her name was whispered to those who hid their tears or were ashamed of sneezing.

And the legend lived on. Just as she lived — happy, free, and real.

So if you are thinking right now that something about you is “wrong” — remember Lilu. And remember: sometimes boogers are what lead to true beauty.
