The Mystery of the Old Dam
Deep in the forest, where a rushing stream flowed over the rocks, lived a beaver named Buddy. He was the best builder in the entire forest—no bridge, hut, or dam could match his craftsmanship.
One morning, a little rabbit, who always had the latest news, came running to him.
— Buddy! The old dam at the Great Lake is nearly destroyed! If we don’t fix it, the water will break through and flood all the homes!
Buddy raised his eyebrows in surprise. The old dam had been built by his great-grandfather and was considered strong and reliable.
— I need to check it out, — he said and set off.
A Difficult Task
When the beaver reached the Great Lake, he saw that the dam had indeed tilted, and streams of water were already seeping through the logs.
— Whoa! This is going to take a lot of work! — he murmured.
But before Buddy could get closer, he heard a quiet whisper:
— Leave… This is my place…
The beaver looked around, but no one was there.
— Strange, — he thought, but he got to work.
He started reinforcing the wooden beams, but every time he placed a new log, it vanished on its own.
— Magic?! — Buddy exclaimed.
Just then, an old otter appeared before him.
WOW:
— Don’t bother, kid. The dam is enchanted. Long ago, a Water Spirit lived here, but his home was submerged when this dam was built. He cast a spell: the dam won’t hold until his home is restored!
— Then we need to rebuild his house! — the beaver exclaimed.
Meeting the Water Spirit
Buddy decided to find the remains of the Water Spirit’s old house. He dived underwater and discovered the half-ruined dwelling.
— This is going to be quite a renovation… — he sighed.
The beaver gathered the best craftsmen in the forest: a beaver carpenter, a squirrel mason, and a mole who knew everything about strong foundations. Together, they built a new home for the Water Spirit.
When the house was finished, the old Water Spirit emerged from the water.
— I never expected anyone to care about me… — he said and waved his hand.
Suddenly, the dam stopped crumbling, the water became calm, and the sun shone even brighter.
— Thank you, Beaver! — said the Water Spirit. — If you ever need help, just call me.
A Wise Lesson
The beaver realized that you can’t just demolish the old without thinking about the consequences. Sometimes, restoration is not just about repairs—it’s about preserving history and maintaining harmony.
From that day on, the old dam stood strong once more, and the Water Spirit no longer caused trouble.
And whenever someone told Buddy, “It’s easier to tear this building down,” he would smile and say:
— Maybe it’s worth saving instead?
