Category Observations and Research

Observations and Research is an ORBK.NET section for original projects that explore patterns, origins, established beliefs and familiar phenomena from unexpected angles.

Natural Parallels explores similar mechanisms across nature, society and human behavior. The focus is not on superficial resemblance, but on recurring patterns that can help explain competition, adaptation, cooperation and change.

Philosophy of the Body examines the relationship between the body, mind, habits, culture, technology and the environment. Why do people behave the way they do? How is our relationship with the body changing? And where is the boundary between what is natural and what is created or modified by humans?

How Did It Begin? investigates the origins of familiar things, technologies, social systems and everyday phenomena. Where did they come from, why did they take their present form, how did they evolve, and what might come next?

Myths and Mysteries examines well-known legends, mysterious stories, unusual theories and popular beliefs. We separate what can be supported by evidence from speculation, later interpretations and questions that still have no definitive answer.

Why Did Leggings Become Almost Universal Clothing in the 21st Century?

Some clothes still belong to a place in our minds. A blazer suggests the office, pajamas belong at home, and sportswear once clearly belonged to exercise. Leggings have largely escaped that logic. People wear them to yoga, on school runs,…

Why Being Visible Is Both Valuable and Dangerous

A peacock attracts attention precisely because it is difficult not to notice. Business, careers and social media follow a similar logic: visibility brings partners, customers and opportunities — but it also attracts critics, competitors and much stricter expectations. In the…

Slavic Horoscope: What Is Your Sign in the “Ancient Pagan” Calendar?

Dark Elk, Stinging Hornet, Fiery Squirrel, Pearl Pike, White Owl or Golden-Horned Bull — the popular “Slavic horoscope” looks very different from the familiar Western zodiac. Instead of Aries, Leo or Scorpio, it uses animals associated with the natural world…

The Slavic Horoscope Under Review: Myth, Tradition or Modern Cultural Game?

The same person can be a Fiery Horse in one “Slavic horoscope”, Svarog in another, and receive a patron plant in a third. That contradiction already tells us something important: there is no single stable system, but a family of…

Efficiency vs Resilience: Why the World May Move Away from Maximum Optimization

For decades, business learned to strip out inventories, spare capacity, and duplication. Now part of that “inefficiency” is beginning to look like the price of keeping a system alive. If a natural ecosystem were judged by the logic of a…

Will AI Become More Like an Ant Colony Than a Single Giant Brain?

Future artificial intelligence may develop not as one ever-larger model, but as a system of specialized agents that divide work among themselves. Yet the natural parallel with ants has one important limit. An ant colony has a queen, but no…
